Carmell Jones Returns, October 1982— Gainesville, Florida

It is no secret that we at IPI love the trumpeter Carmell Jones. This tape is a delightful addition to the jam session tape we published with Joe Pass recorded in 1964 in Los Angeles. This second Jones tape was recorded on 5 October 1982 in Gainesville, Florida, by John William Hardy.  Originally released as vinyl, on the Revelation Records label by Jonathan Horwich and John William Hardy, the master tapes of this album have been safely stored in the IPI archives until now. The musicianship is wonderful. Carmell Jones displays his usual rock-solid tonality, driven by a creamy fluidity. And Frank Sullivan is outstanding on piano – measured and tasteful. In short, this release is for lovers of fine, straight-ahead jazz. Although this is not a modern IPI recording, the sound is good enough to fully enjoy the music, which we hope you will.
